Day 1143.

Chemo again. We showed up with our decision on chemo drugs in hand, but before we could get it out of our mouths, the doctor told us what we were going to have -- Mitomycin, Velban, and 5-FU. We asked "Where did this come from, it wasn't even on your list?" The answer was "Oh, I decided this was best after thinking about it." So much for self-directed medicine. On the other hand, we were going to take advantage of a new medicine Zofran (need to check with insurance since it's new -- OK we can use it).

Rule #39: Take Advantage of advances in Medicine

This new drug was a pre-med that was supposed to almost totally reduce the nausea associated with chemo, with no other side effects like getting spacey. Jackie took it and she didn't vomit. Of course she didn't try the chemo without it, but at least she seemed a little better after chemo, although she still had some nausea. Of course she may have been building up "chemo-aversion", but I doubt it.

On the other hand, this was pretty tough chemo, and she felt pretty wiped out after it. Actually wiped out is probably not a strong enough description. She felt like she had a serious flu from after the chemo almost up until she had to get the next one.

Not only that, but the chemo room was getting more crowded, and it seemed like we were seeing more younger (our age) people. We were pretty involved in what we were doing, but even so we questioned what in the world was going on. Why the increase? Why the younger people? Is the DDT answer true?
