Day 915

Time to start the chemo again. We had all decided to use the Novantron since it's supposed to be so close to adriomycin, which is sort of the premier chemo drug for breast cancer, except your hair isn't as likely to come out. We also had to find out what other chemo drugs went with it. Funny thing was, some of the tumor from the node had been sent for a new test they had started doing -- an assay. They take the tumor cells and culture them and then test these cells against various chemo drugs to see what works. So we get to the funny thing -- 5FU had the least effect, yet we find out we're going to use it again. The explanation was that you can never tell how it was going to work in the body, and you never knew how it would work in combination with other drugs. Why do the test? This time it was Novantron, methotrexate, and 5-FU. Too bad the port is out, Jackie will have to be stuck, and her veins weren't all that good before. I could see that it will be difficult to find good veins for this treatment. This chemo was pretty much like last time except we knew what to expect, and we knew what pre-meds Jackie was allergic to.
